Abstract

Spinal anaesthesia is one of the most suitable modality of anaesthesia for procedures involving the lower limbs. To extend the duration of spinal anaesthesia, a variety of additives are added to spinal medication. Ropivacaine has an increased margin of safety over bupivacaine, with a decreased CNS toxicity and cardiotoxic potential.
