Abstract

Sub Arachnoid Block is the commonly used anaesthesia technique for lower abdominal surgeries due to its simplicity, rapid onset and effective sensory and motor block. Bupivacaine, the most widely used intrathecal drug, has been showing several cardiovascular and CNS side effects. Levobupivacaine and Ropivacaine are long acting amide local anaesthetics with favourable profiles having fewer side effects on the central nervous system and the cardiovascular system. This review compares the efficacy, safety, and outcomes of these drugs in the context of lower abdominal surgeries.
